There’s no place in Finland during winter like Ylläs, Lapland. It is pure magic and the light is always great. At least all that few hours it lasts. My absolute favorite time of year is winter in Lapland. It’s cold, not much daylight and little light pollution which is perfect for star gazing or auroras. The first time I got to stay in Ylläs was also Christmas. I have to say that combination left unforgettable great memories. I recall that to be the first time in my life I saw auroras.
If anyone is wanting to get wed up here in Ylläs, it is very hard to say no. I think the photos of Melanie & Mark proofs that claim. People coming from another country to get married intimately with just a few closest relatives is an huge honor for a photographer to be there and document their day. Also less people equals less hassle during the day.
This time instead of showing a lot more of the day, I chose to show you mostly portraits that make me smile. Just look at that light. It is insane! First in your mind is that I have 3 hours of light, but then the quality of that light is just phenomenal and you pretty much stop worrying about it. Do note that the colder it gets, the more beautiful everything looks. Sure, in all that cold noses might turn up red.. ha ha! Glittering snow, glittering trees and when it gets dark you see million of stars and if you are lucky you might see northern lights.
In the middle of summer the sun never sets up here, so you’ve sun 24/7.
Now grab a hot chocolate and let the photos take you to this magical place we’re ever so lucky to have on this earth..
Everything else is around the lake which the map below pinpoints.
