Töölönlahti, Helsinki, one of the usual places to photograph a couple but this wasn’t an ordinary shoot. These guys wanted to go back in time dressing accordingly, keeping their facial expressions to the minimum while looking serious but not depressed.
You would think if this was done properly, we should have shot this on film and maybe find a place which is has that vintage vibe, but unfortunately we didn’t have such equipment and that place was picked for a good reason, so we went all digital and sure while digital has its perks over analog, it is very hard to capture those tones and feeling of a film. Then again with film camera you cannot take hundreds of shots in a row and just pick the one you like. So whatever makes you tickle in the end so to speak. Still, while I’m regularly shooting digital, I think one day I will get more into film world just to see what I may have missed.
Although here vintage style was in mind, it did not mean we couldn’t go crazy with ideas with modern twist. With some couples you click in an instant and get ideas which do not work with others, so you kind of know what you can suggest and will it become reality as in how you saw it in your mind. Chemistry makes a difference!
Töölönlahti is versatile enough with its parks, buildings, trees, waterfront and rather nice views for many types of photography.
This is still one of my favorite portrait session to date.
